Why JCLJ?
The Rising Challenge
Antisemitism in Australia – already on the rise – surged after October 2023. The threats and antisemitic acts escalated from intimidation on campuses and exclusion and discrimination in workplaces and the arts, to vilification at protests and online harassment, then damage to property, and finally to the Bondi terror attack. The ongoing threat is very real.
Australia has laws to protect people against these harms, but they are often under-used, misunderstood, or hard to access. People don’t always know their rights, where to go for support, or understand the risks and costs of pursuing legal action as an individual.
The Jewish Centre for Law & Justice, a centralised, independent, national legal organisation, was established to meet this challenge.
Independent and Professional
We are deliberately independent, to ensure that we can provide legal support, seek to protect fundamental rights, and hold perpetrators and institutions accountable for
antisemitism.
JCLJ is governed by an experienced board, led by legal professionals, and supported by a strong pro bono network.
